About Becycling
Chris Armstrong is an experienced leisure cyclist based in the West Yorkshire area. He has notched up many miles on a bike but did not start cycling until he was into his early forties. He started with a daily inner city commute and quickly realised that cycling was fun and that it could be safe, despite what a lot of people said. After initially "surviving" and then enjoying this commute, Chris realised that if he could pass on the skills he had learned to others, then they might not have those initial nerves that he had experienced himself. Chris trained as an Activity Coach with British Cycling, and began to deliver cycle training sessions to local youngsters in the Bingley area.
Chris soon realised there was a demand for both playground based and on-road training, and it was this in mind that he became a Cycling National Standards Accredited Instructor. Since this time Chris has delivered many Bikeability courses to clubs, schools and groups of young people in places as far afield as Huddersfield, Rochdale, Manchester and the Bradford area where he is based.
Chris has also taught adults to ride and has provided adults with advice on cyclecraft and how to plan journeys. He knows from personal experience how difficult it can be to take those first steps of not just getting a bike, but then actually getting on it and going for a ride. He has the skills and experience to make (re)learning to cycle for adults enjoyable as well as rewarding.
Chris has a small fleet of childrens' bikes, together with helmets, hi-viz vests and other equipment available for hire. Get in touch if you have a group of children who wish to undertake cycle training or if you want to organise a cycling party, complete with obstacle course and games.
Chris is now a keen mountain biker and has recently attended a mountain bike skills course and has passed the nationally recognised trail leader level 2 qualification awarded by MIAS. If you are interested in guided off-road rides, either for children, adults or whole family groups, then Chris would love to hear from you. This could be a ride along the canal towpath or a cycle through some of the beautiful woodland and moorland that is on our doorstep but we don't often get to see.
Chris has organised successful "Cycle In The Park" events in the Shipley and Bingley area. He is fully qualified in first aid, he has an enhanced up to date CRB check, and is fully insured. More of Chris's work can be seen here and here
